About Smitten

About Katie Smith

As a child, Katie Smith used to scour op-shops collecting weaves, knits and prints. This love of fabrics lead her to discover her skill in screen printing and textile design. After completing a craft design Certificate in Textiles, Katie completed an MA in Textile Art at Goldsmiths University in London.
Returning to N.Z. in 2001, she hasn’t stopped living and breathing in textiles. As well as her own consulting and print-design work; Katie has a desire to teach others the beauty that can be found in textile printing. Alongside her Smitten workshops, she also teaches at the Nanette School of Interior Design, and as a tutor in print making at Whitecliffe School of Art and Design.

Smitten - Textile Print design Studio

Getting Smitten

Smitten is the result of Katie Smith’s life-long obsession with fabric. It’s a place to connect with your own creativity through print making workshops. A space to collaborate with others, or engage with us to create a bespoke piece, or one-off installation in fabric.
We also create fabric-based homewares to co-exist with the things you already have and love in your home. As a small, artisan, New Zealand-based business, we source good quality natural fibres to print on, with a view to greater sustainability. Our ethos is slow design, and small-scale limited production using water based eco-friendly inks.
All of our artwork is original: hand painted, or drawn. Each motif is inspired by everyday patterns that surround us in nature, architecture, or in urban textures.
